President Bola Tinubu will address Nigerians today (Tuesday) in a nationwide broadcast on the situation in Rivers State.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development.
“The NTA and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria will transmit the broadcast at 7 pm.
“All TV and radio stations are requested to link up with the broadcast,” Onanuga stated.
President Tinubu had earlier held a closed-door meeting with top security officials, including the Service Chiefs and Inspector-General of Police, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Other high-ranking officials present include National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Department of State Service Director-General Adeola Ajayi, and National Intelligence Agency Director-General Mohammed Mohammed.
Sources confirmed that the meeting was related to the country’s security situation, which has recently been marred by incidents like the explosion at the Trans Niger Pipeline in Rivers State.
The explosion occurred near the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction.
The meeting also comes on the heels of escalating tensions between the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, who’s been accused of making inflammatory comments about the political crisis in Rivers State.
Many political analysts had also called on the President to call both Governor Fubara and Wike to order.
