President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with top security officials, including the Service Chiefs and Inspector-General of Police, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In attendance are key lawmakers, such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
However, it’s unclear if the lawmakers are participating in the meeting with the security chiefs.
Other high-ranking officials present include National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Department of State Service Director-General Adeola Ajayi, and National Intelligence Agency Director-General Mohammed Mohammed.
Although the meeting’s agenda hasn’t been made public, it’s likely related to the country’s security situation, which has recently been marred by incidents like the explosion at the Trans Niger Pipeline in Rivers State.
The explosion occurred near the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction.
The meeting also comes on the heels of escalating tensions between the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, who’s been accused of making inflammatory comments about the political crisis in Rivers State.
PANDEF’s youth wing had given Wike a 48-hour ultimatum to apologize, which expired on Monday.
