Veteran Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo, has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Tinubu’s decision, announced on Tuesday, led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the state’s House of Assembly for six months. Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) has been appointed as the state’s administrator to take charge of its affairs.
Reacting on Instagram, Dokubo questioned the motive behind the declaration, arguing that Rivers State had enjoyed peace for two years. She accused Tinubu of attempting to take control of the state’s economy and likened his actions to themes from George Orwell’s Animal Farm.
“State of emergency because for two years we have had peace!
State of emergency because you want to capture the economic soul of Rivers State!
State of emergency because of one man?
Shameless!
Perhaps Mr. President should just say he wants to annex Rivers State.”
She further suggested that every citizen of Rivers State should be given Animal Farm as a “palliative,” hinting at political oppression.
