Olanrewaju, whose address was not provided, was arraigned on Wednesday on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, told the court that Olarenwaju committed the offences on March 10 between 8.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m., at Ologuneru area of Ibadan.

Lawal said the defendant and two of his brothers, still at large, stole one Tecno phone and a cross bag containing N50, 000.

He said that the phone and money belonged to a motorcyclist, Mr Ismaila Haruna.

He said the motorcyclist carried the convict and his brothers to a junction at the aforementioned place and they had a misunderstanding among themselves.

Lawal said that during the misunderstanding, the brothers made away with Haruna’s phone and the cross bag.

He said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000

He admitted guilt.

The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, adjourned the case until Friday for review of facts and judgment.

On Friday, the court reviewed the facts of the case and convicted Olanrewaju.

Olanipekun sentenced the convict to three months imprisonment or N15,000 fine for count one (conspiracy).

Olanipekun sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment or N25, 000 fine for count two (stealing).

The magistrate ordered the convict to also pay N50,000 as compensation to the complainant.

Olanipekun said the court gave the convict fine options because he did not waste the time of the court.

He said that the court also considered the fact that the convict did not have any previous records of offence.
