Europe’s busiest airport, Heathrow, has resumed operations following a power shutdown caused by a fire at a power station.

The shutdown had led to the cancellation of more than 1000 flights and disruption of  the travel plans of as many as 290,000 passengers.

But on Saturday morning, a Heathrow spokesperson said  the air hub was now open and fully operational.

“Teams across the airport continue to do everything they can to support passengers impacted by yesterday’s outage at an off-airport power substation.

“We have hundreds of additional colleagues on hand in our terminals and we have added flights to today’s schedule to facilitate an extra 10,000 passengers traveling through the airport.”

“Passengers traveling today should check with their airline for the latest information regarding their flight,” the spokesperson said.
