The world of sports and beyond is in mourning following the death of boxing legend George Foreman, who passed away on Saturday.

The two-time heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist leaves behind an enduring legacy, not just as a knockout artist in the ring, but as a beloved mentor, pastor, and entrepreneur.

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley was visibly shaken upon hearing the news. Speaking on CBS Sports, he recalled the wisdom and kindness that defined Foreman outside the ring.

“He was obviously one of the greatest boxers ever, but just a gentle man,” Barkley said, his voice heavy with emotion. “He was a pastor – and it just hurts, man. Plain and simple.”

Barkley also reflected on how Foreman inspired him beyond sports. “I always picked his brain about trying to be an entrepreneur when your career is over. His success was bigger than boxing. He was an inspiration in life.”

Turki Alalshikh, Saudi Arabia’s leading figure in boxing promotion, mourned the passing of “Big George,” highlighting the historical void his death leaves in the sport.

“The last boxing pillar for an unforgettable era has passed away today… May his soul rest in peace,” Alalshikh wrote on social media, alongside a photo of Foreman with his legendary rivals Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

The Ring magazine, often regarded as the “Bible of Boxing,” paid tribute, calling Foreman “one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.”

He also praised Foreman’s business acumen, revealing he was one of the first to purchase the iconic George Foreman Grill.

Scottie Pippen also paid his respects, posting a poignant message alongside a picture of Foreman in the ring: “Rest in peace, George Foreman. Your legacy lives on, champ.”

Former Heavyweight champion Mike Tyson shared old photos with Foreman, writing, “Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten.”

Though the two never met in the ring, Tyson always held Foreman in the highest regard, recognizing his strength, skill, and resilience both inside and outside the ropes.

Foreman’s impact transcended boxing. He redefined second chances, coming back to the ring in his 40s to reclaim the heavyweight title and later becoming a globally recognized businessman.

While the world grieves, the spirit of George Foreman—his thunderous punches, his unwavering faith, and his infectious smile—will live on.
