Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Queen Mercy Atang, has addressed the negative effects of false divorce rumours about her marriage.
In an Instagram post, she shared a screenshot of a troll’s direct message to her husband, in which she was insulted and called an “amoeba” while the troll advised her husband to “warn” her.
Expressing her frustration, Queen revealed that the spread of false rumors about her marriage had encouraged numerous women to flood her husband’s inbox with unsolicited messages. Some of these women reportedly badmouthed her while proposing themselves as better alternatives, promising to be more obedient wives.
Queen noted the emotional toll this has taken on her and disclosed her desire to either hide her husband’s Instagram account or refrain from posting about him altogether.
“This isn’t the first time these trolls have found their way into my husband’s DMs to say ridiculous things. You trolled me, I reacted, and then you ran to his DMs to say you wanted to drag me. Did someone tell you I’m scared of being dragged? I’ve had enough of it,” Queen wrote.
She further expressed her empathy for couples who choose to keep their marriages private, citing the toxic nature of online spaces. Queen reiterated her resilience in the face of online harassment, stating that she has developed a thick skin from years of cyberbullying.
Addressing her critics directly, Queen said, “Please, if you want to drag me, go ahead, but don’t cross the line. If I decide to make an example of you, you won’t like it.”
