The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, says all inmates who escaped from Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State, could be recaptured through advanced biometric technology and other measures.
The minister said this in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Babatunde Alao.
Tunji-Ojo assured that the government would do everything possible unravel the circumstances surrounding the jail break.
He directed the Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi, to visit the facility and conduct a comprehensive security audit.
He said, “We are on top of the situation. Our men are on ground in Kogi, and I have ordered a comprehensive audit of the situation.”
He also said, “All necessary measures, including our robust biometric database and existing technology solutions, will be deployed to recapture every escaped inmate.”
