A 27-year-old businessman, Daniel Ikechukwu, was on Monday docked at an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N2.3 million from a complainant under false pretence.

Ikechukwu whose address was not provided is standing trial before Magistrate L.K.J Layeni, on a one-count charge of obtaining by false pretence.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that Ikechukwu committed the offence on Dec. 31, 2024, at the Trade Fair complex area of Ojo.

Uche alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N2.25 million from one Mr Nzube Onuoha, the complainant under the pretence of converting same to RmB Chinese currency for goods supply from China.

He said that after the defendant received the said money, the complainant neither received goods from his Chinese suppliers, nor did the defendant refund the money.

He said that the offence contravenes the provisions of section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The Magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case to April 30, for hearing. (NAN)
