Police operatives in Bauchi State have arrested four suspects over the death of a 20-year-old security guard, identified as Polmi Dauda after an altercation at a location near Larema Hotel where he was working.
Dauda Polmi who was found severely injured at the location on March 22, 2025 was pronounced dead at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) he was rushed to shortly after arrival, Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, said in a statement on Sunday.
The Police spokesperson said report of the incident was filed by the victim’s brother, Danda Dauda, at the Bauchi Metro Area Command, the incident occurred on Saturday.
According to him, police authorities were treating the case as potential culpable homicide.
“Despite the swift response of medical personnel at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Polmi was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the facility,” the police spokesperson said while noting that preliminary investigations suggest the altercation may have been sparked by an allegation of theft.
According to him, the altercation was instigated by a group of individuals who accused Polmi of stealing clothing and personal items belonging to a tenant.
He listed the suspects identified to be involved in the incident as Ibrahim Yahaya, a pharmacist at ATBU Teaching Hospital; Dr. Musa Awwal, a medical doctor at the same hospital; Imrana Ibrahim, a local businessman; and Zakariya’u Isah, another security guard.
“The police have taken the suspects into custody and are providing critical information to assist in the ongoing investigation. The deceased’s body has been deposited postmortem examination at the ATBUTH mortuary,” he said.
He added that Bauchi Commissioner of Police has directed a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served.
Consequently, the Bauchi Police Command’s spokesman also called on the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed without interference.
