Sponsored by the Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and seconded by Deputy Leader Senator Oyelola Ashiru, the bill aims to produce highly skilled graduates to drive Nigeria’s innovation and economic growth.
During the debate, Bamidele emphasized the university’s mission to provide specialized education in fields like Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and various natural sciences.
“For Nigeria to become one of the world’s leading economies, we must position our educational institutions to tackle technological challenges,” Bamidele stated.
Supporting the bill, Ashiru highlighted Epe’s strategic importance as a growing economic hub near Ibeju-Lekki, known for its industrial activities and creative economy. He called on the Senate to approve the bill for the advancement of the region and the nation.
The bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for further consideration, with a report expected within four weeks.
