Since he made the pronouncement that he will be giving the University ₦500 million, he has been paying. It was even in mid November that he made the promise and he paid fully for that month and till date, he is still paying. "Since this Governor came, have you ever heard that the gate of the School was locked? Why? It's because we've been implementing simple government policies," Aladenika said.

The management of Edo State-owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has explained that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s sincere interest in the institution has changed the narratives for the better.

The Principal Assistant Registrar/Head of Information and Public Relations of the University, Otunba Mike Aladenika, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council.

Aladenika who recalled the poor funding of the University by the previous administration, commended Governor Okpebholo for raising the monthly allocation to the institution and consistently paying same.

It would be recalled that the immediate past government of Mr Godwin Obaseki reduced the monthly allocation to the University to ₦41 million, but was raised to ₦500 million by the present administration.

“Since he made the pronouncement that he will be giving the University ₦500 million, he has been paying. It was even in mid November that he made the promise and he paid fully for that month and till date, he is still paying.

“Since this Governor came, have you ever heard that the gate of the School was locked? Why? It’s because we’ve been implementing simple government policies,” Aladenika said.

The AAU’s image maker also disclosed that the University has recently inducted graduate medical doctors and nurses, a thing that had nit been done in five years.

“This Governor came and asked what the problem was and they told him, he intervened, we’ve inducted doctors. Just last week or so, we inducted 204 nurses. Now we can also admit students into the nursing department.

“The bottom line of all these is that the interest of the Governor must be shown in the operations of the school. When the government does not have the interest of the school, then you see the stories that are bad,” he said.

Aladenika also described the frequent confrontations between the management of the University and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in the past as history.

“It is not as if ASUU is no longer in the school, they are there. Then what has changed? It is the idea to honour certain principles, it is to make sure that things keep moving.

“Now we’re enjoying good government policies. We make bold to say that things are working as they should be. AAU is rising. A favorable and friendly government policy is now telling the good story of AAU as against what we used to hear.

“At a point, we almost have an acting University, but, to God be the glory, things are working now, things are changing for the better and the students are enjoying the system, the lecturers and the workers are looking for a brighter period

“Considering the favorable government’s positions to Ambrose Alli University now, I make bold to say that Ambrose Alli University is the best choice for parents that wants good and quality education for their children.

“In the way things are going there is no doubt that the errors of the past will be corrected,” he added.
