The Presidency has unleashed a scathing rebuttal against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, dismissing his latest claims as “baseless, distracting, and politically desperate.”
Atiku, through his media office, alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was investigating him over supposed financial dealings involving Lagos State.
But in a swift and blistering response, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, rubbished the accusations, labeling them “infantile and a transparent ploy to deflect from his political setbacks.”
“It is disheartening that a politician of Atiku’s stature would lend credibility to baseless social media speculation just to remain politically relevant,” Onanuga declared.
He went further, accusing the former VP of being “desperate for attention” and using divisive tactics to remain in the public eye after his crushing defeat in the 2023 presidential election.
“Since his defeat, Atiku has failed to rise to the dignified role of an elder statesman. Instead, he has chosen the path of unfounded accusations and reckless rhetoric,” Onanuga said, pulling no punches.
The Presidency made it clear that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains laser-focused on governance and national stability, with no time for political distractions.
“President Tinubu has neither the time nor the inclination to engage in Atiku’s petty political games,” the statement read.
Onanuga also defended the EFCC, dismissing Atiku’s insinuations as a direct attack on the credibility of the anti-graft agency.
“The EFCC operates within its statutory mandate without external influence. Any insinuation otherwise is a disservice to the agency’s professionalism and the rule of law,” he stated.
In a final blow, the Presidency urged Atiku to “redirect his energy toward unity, economic progress, and democratic stability”, rather than engaging in “cheap political theatrics.”
