Sikiru “Omo Iya Eleja” Shogbesan, Nigeria’s first graduate boxer, is bringing more than just brute strength into the ring—he’s bringing science.

With a firm grasp on technology and biology, the microbiology graduate has vowed to dismantle his opponent, Segun Gbobaniyi, in a calculated takedown at GOtv Boxing Night 33 on 26 April at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Shogbesan, a product of the GOtv Boxing NextGen Search, isn’t just a fighter; he’s a scholar of combat. Holding a Higher National Diploma in Microbiology and an Ordinary National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology—both with Upper Credit—the boxer-turned-scientist has already mapped out Gbobaniyi’s downfall.

“Segun does not know what’s coming. Even if he does, he will not know how to deal with it,” Shogbesan declared at his training base in Lagos.

“In the ring, I am guided by my knowledge of technology and biology. Both fields help me determine what to do at every moment. Segun will not last beyond three rounds. Mark my words.”
