Former Oyo State Governor, Rasheed Ladoja, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State should not be misconstrued as a threat to democracy.
Speaking on Sunday at his Ibadan residence while hosting dignitaries for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Ladoja defended the President’s move, insisting it has helped stabilise the state.
“The temporary intervention from the President has brought relative peace in the state,” he said.
Ladoja called on elders and key political figures involved in the Rivers crisis to embrace dialogue for a peaceful resolution, stressing that those with genuine intentions to serve the people should be open to discussions.
He urged Rivers residents and stakeholders to remain calm as they await the verdict in the case filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, warning against unnecessary tension.
Shifting focus to the essence of Ramadan, Ladoja advised Nigerians to continue their acts of kindness beyond the fasting period, highlighting the need for a selfless and compassionate society.
“Many people have been on self-imposed and compulsory fasting due to lack of food before the commencement of Ramadan,” he noted.
“Apart from abstinence from sins, Ramadan teaches us to remember and care for people who lack basic means of survival. We must embrace a sacrificial lifestyle,” Ladoja added.
He called on well-meaning Nigerians to uphold the spirit of giving and empathy, ensuring that the underprivileged are not forgotten in the country’s socio-economic landscape.
