Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, AY questioned how banks continue to declare trillions of Naira in profits each quarter despite Nigeria’s struggling economy.

Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, better known as AY, has raised concerns over the excessive service charges imposed by commercial banks in the country.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, AY questioned how banks continue to declare trillions of Naira in profits each quarter despite Nigeria’s struggling economy.

He argued that some of the charges imposed on customers are peculiar to Nigeria and should be challenged.

He wrote, “Where do banks get the trillions they declare as profits every quarter, even in a struggling economy? The small charges and debits on our accounts need to be challenged. Many of these fees are unique to Nigeria. Why is that?”
