The letter, issued on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja, invites the Emir for an investigative meeting regarding the incident.

In a development that has sent shockwaves through Kano State, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially summoned the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for questioning.

This action follows a violent incident during the recent Eid-el-Fitr procession, which tragically resulted in the death of a local vigilante member.

The incident occurred on Eid Day as the Emir’s entourage moved from the Eid prayer ground to the palace in a traditional procession.

The clash disrupted the otherwise peaceful celebration, leading to the death of vigilante member Surajo Rabiu and leaving another individual injured.

An official letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by Commissioner of Police Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, has been sent to Emir Sanusi II.

The letter, issued on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja, invites the Emir for an investigative meeting regarding the incident.

The meeting is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.

This development occurs amid heightened tensions in Kano State, following the earlier decision by the State Police Command to ban the annual Durbar festival due to security concerns.

Despite the ban, a motorcade procession led by Emir Sanusi II took place on the third day of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

In response to the recent violence, the Kano State Police Command has condemned the booing of Emir Sanusi II’s entourage during Eid prayers and warned individuals intending to cause chaos during the celebrations to stay clear of the state.

As of now, there has been no official response from Emir Sanusi II’s palace regarding the police invitation.

The situation remains fluid, and further developments are awaited as investigations proceed.
