Former President Muhammadu Buhari has urged members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to adopt a citizen-centric approach to governance.

He emphasised that leadership presents both challenges and opportunities, stressing that striking the right balance would be crucial for advancing national progress.

During a meeting with APC governors, Buhari expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts of the governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging them to remain dedicated to improving the nation.

He also highlighted the importance of prioritising the welfare of the citizens over personal interests.

Drawing from his own example, Buhari shared that he left office without acquiring any assets, stating, “I didn’t acquire assets while I served as President.”

He further acknowledged the renovation of his Kaduna home by the Tinubu administration, noting that while the external appearance remained the same, significant internal improvements were made.

The former President thanked the governors for their visit, which was organised to mark Eid-el-Fitr, and noted that while he had worked with several of the governors, some were new to him.

Imo State Governor and PGF Chairman, Hope Uzodinma, conveyed the forum’s gratitude to Buhari for his invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and the APC.

He expressed admiration for Buhari’s role in founding the party and reaffirmed that his legacy continues to shape its identity and direction.

Uzodinma also recalled Buhari’s historic achievement as the only opposition candidate in Nigeria to defeat an incumbent president, highlighting his principled leadership, focus on security, economic recovery, and anti-corruption, which resonated deeply with the party’s values.

He praised Buhari’s administration for initiatives like the Anchor Borrowers Scheme, social investment programs, and infrastructure development, which continue to benefit the country.

The PGF Chairman recognised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, noting the smooth transition and Buhari’s endorsement of Tinubu as a symbol of continuity within the party.

The governors expressed their commitment to upholding the progressive values instilled by Buhari as they work towards ensuring APC’s continued success in fostering a more prosperous Nigeria.
