Dozens of entrepreneurs from Nigeria’s Southwest say their businesses have taken a turn for the better after participating in First City Monument Bank’s (FCMB) Business Empowerment, Sustainability and Training (BEST) Masterclass.

The latest phase of the programme, held between March 12 and 21, 2025, delivered practical sessions across Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Kwara States.

The sessions focused on financial literacy, digital marketing, business planning, and sustainable growth strategies. Participants also benefited from free business registration through the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), courtesy of FCMB.

Jide Olaniyi, a small business owner in Kwara State, admitted he wasn’t sure what to expect at first. “But I left with a deeper understanding of how to structure my business and apply digital tools. I’m already seeing the difference in how I operate,” he said.

In Ogun State, Patricia Simisola found both the training and registration support rewarding. “That was a real bonus. It gave me the push I needed to formalise my business,” she noted.

Participants also highlighted the benefit of networking with fellow entrepreneurs. “It changed how I approach decision-making in my business,” said Dolapo Olayiwola, who attended in Oyo State. “I now have a clearer idea of how to grow without losing focus.”

George Ogbonnaya, FCMB’s Divisional Head of Business Banking, said the programme reflects the bank’s commitment to driving inclusive prosperity. “Our goal is not just to support entrepreneurs financially but to help them build sustainable, scalable businesses,” he explained.

Since it launched in 2018, the BEST Masterclass has trained hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs nationwide. FCMB says it will continue to expand the initiative, focusing on education, mentorship, and access to business infrastructure.

For Ifeoma Ozoemena, who took part in Ondo State, the impact is already clear. “I now feel more confident about growing my business,” she said. “I’m glad I gave it a chance.”

The masterclass featured workshops led by industry experts and successful entrepreneurs, equipping attendees with actionable plans and encouraging peer learning through networking sessions.
