President Joan Laporta has warned Barcelona players not to be complacent as he stressed the significance of the match against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Laporta emphasized the need for his team to win and showcase their strength on the European stage despite winning the first leg of the quarterfinals by four goals.
“This match carries huge sporting significance,” Laporta said. “We need to win, show a strong image, and send a clear message in the Champions League that we are still a force to be reckoned with.”
Laporta dismissed any notions of relaxation or complacency, highlighting the team’s focus and determination. “I’ve heard some say there could be some relaxation—absolutely not. We have to be at our best, out of respect for our opponent.”
The Barcelona president praised the team’s unity and competitiveness, crediting their coach for leading them brilliantly. “We’re very proud of how the team is performing—united, strong, and competitive, with a coach who leads them brilliantly.”
While acknowledging the team’s recent success, including the Super Cup win, Laporta emphasized that there’s still much to be achieved. “We haven’t achieved anything yet. We’re proud of the Super Cup and our style of play, but there’s still everything to fight for.”
With a clear message to his team, Laporta concluded, “Football has shown us that anything can happen. We can’t afford to relax. Full focus is essential to get the win.”
