In a dramatic legal twist, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Wednesday declared the removal of reinstated Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, as illegal and unconstitutional.

The court further voided all proceedings and resolutions of the Lagos State House of Assembly from January 13, 2025, during which Obasa was ousted.

The ruling came after Obasa, through his legal counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), filed a suit challenging the legality of his removal and the criminal allegations leveled against him.

The speaker argued that the actions of the 36 lawmakers who removed him were unlawful, especially considering that the Assembly was on recess and he was out of the country at the time.

Obasa fiercely denied accusations of fraud, highhandedness, and gross misconduct, calling them baseless and a smear campaign.
