As the Easter festivities unfold, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a comprehensive security framework to ensure the safety and protection of lives and property across the state, vowing to prevent crime and swiftly address any emerging threats.
In a statement released and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police reassured residents of their readiness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the celebrations.
“These proactive measures and approaches are aimed at preventing crimes and criminalities in the general area of Lagos State,” the statement read.
“This will also nip in the bud any other security breaches that may arise. The maintenance of public order before, during, and after the festivities will be our utmost priority.”
To execute this, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered full deployment of officers and directed strict coordination with other relevant agencies.
“The Lagos State Police will coordinate and work in synergy with other security and safety agencies in the State that are statutorily complementing the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in the internal security of the State,” the statement added, listing the Military, paramilitary outfits, LASTMA, and other departments of the State Government.
The CP also emphasised the need for professionalism and human rights compliance among officers on duty.
“All officers and other personnel of the Command are to discharge their duties with utmost professionalism, courtesy, and firmness, in ensuring that the rights of all citizens are respected,” Hundeyin stated.
“They are to be courteous, polite, professional but firm in carrying out their official duties and other obligations during the period, in whatever capacity and wherever they are posted.”
The Command urged Lagosians to be law-abiding and cooperate with officers.
“The Commissioner of Police therefore implored all Lagosians to be law-abiding, tolerant, and to respect and cooperate with their Police Officers in the discharge of these responsibilities,” the police said.
Furthermore, residents are encouraged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity. “In case of any need, the Lagos State Police Command’s control rooms can be reached via 08063299264 and 08065154338,” the Command advised.
The statement also urged the public to report any instances of police misconduct through its Complaint Response Unit via http://lagos.npf.gov.ng, WhatsApp on 09111111151, or phone call on 09111111150.
Parents and guardians were specifically asked to guide their children away from any actions that could disrupt public peace.
“Parents and Guardians are also advised to prevail on their children and wards not to allow themselves to be used to cause any disturbance of the peace and tranquility currently being enjoyed throughout the State,” the police warned.
As Christians across the state celebrate Easter, CP Jimoh extended warm wishes on behalf of the entire Lagos State Police Command.
“CP Olohundare Jimoh, on behalf of the entire officers and other personnel of the Command, gladly joins all the Christian faithful in the State in the celebration and fervently wishes them sustainable peace, love, and joy associated with the Holy ceremony,” the statement concluded.
