India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, describing him as a “beacon of compassion, humility and spiritual courage.”
In a heartfelt tribute posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Modi conveyed his condolences to the global Catholic community, honouring the Pope’s lifelong dedication to humanity and his unwavering commitment to the ideals of Christ.
“Deeply pained by the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis,” Modi wrote. “In this hour of grief and remembrance, my heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community.”
Modi praised the late Pontiff’s devotion to the underprivileged, saying: “From a young age, he devoted himself towards realising the ideals of Lord Christ. He diligently served the poor and downtrodden. For those who were suffering, he ignited a spirit of hope.”
Reflecting on their past interactions, the Indian Prime Minister recalled being personally inspired by Pope Francis’s values. “I fondly recall my meetings with him and was greatly inspired by his commitment to inclusive and all-round development. His affection for the people of India will always be cherished,” he added.
Modi concluded his tribute with a solemn prayer: “May his soul find eternal peace in God’s embrace.”
The Pope’s passing has drawn condolences from leaders and faith communities around the world, underscoring his impact as a spiritual guide, humanitarian, and advocate for global peace and justice.
