Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of four workers from the Bauchi State Urban Water and Sewerage Corporation, who tragically drowned during a maintenance operation at the Gubi Dam Water Treatment Plant.

The victims—Musa Ibrahim, Abdulmalik Ibrahim, Shu’aibu Hamza, and Jamilu Yunusa—were carrying out routine clearance of water supply channels when the incident occurred, casting a pall of grief over the state.

In a condolence message released on Monday, Governor Mohammed described the incident as a moment of profound collective mourning for Bauchi State. He hailed the deceased as dedicated public servants who gave their lives while ensuring clean water for residents.

“This devastating incident has cast a dark shadow over Bauchi State as we mourn the loss of these hardworking and committed public servants,” he said. “They died in the line of duty, contributing to the essential task of ensuring clean water supply for our people.”

The governor assured the families of the state’s unwavering support and promised that the legacies of the deceased would be honoured.

He also emphasised the importance of stricter safety measures in government and industrial operations.

He revealed that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the tragedy and to prevent such incidents in the future.

“We must enhance safety protocols and ensure strict adherence to operational guidelines to protect our workforce,” he added.

Governor Mohammed prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for divine strength and comfort for their grieving families.
