Governor Mai Mala Buni made the announcement on Monday through a statement released by Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General for Press and Media Affairs at the Government House in Damaturu.

Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), located in Damaturu, has achieved a great success by securing full accreditation from the West African College of Physicians (WACP) to train 25 resident doctors.

Governor Mai Mala Buni made the announcement on Monday through a statement released by Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General for Press and Media Affairs at the Government House in Damaturu.

The governor highlighted the accreditation as a monumental achievement for the state’s healthcare sector, particularly in manpower training aimed at improving healthcare delivery.

Buni made the announcement during an unscheduled inspection visit to the Community Medicine Department of the hospital, a facility constructed by his administration. The governor was accompanied by Sen. Musa Mustapha (APC – Yobe East) and other high-ranking government officials.

“The accreditation and completion of the project are indeed monumental achievements by the administration towards enhancing manpower training for improved healthcare service delivery,” said Governor Buni in the statement.

The accreditation follows a visit by a team of experts from WACP between November 11 and November 14, 2024. In a letter to the hospital signed by WACP Secretary-General, Dr. Musa Dankyau, it was confirmed that the hospital received full accreditation for a five-year term. The accreditation allows for 15 junior residents and 10 senior residents to undergo training at the hospital.

Dr. Dankyau also mentioned that the hospital would need to reapply for reaccreditation six months before the expiration date, which is March 23, 2030.
