Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Bode George, has strongly criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for meeting with former President Muhammadu Buhari, alleging that the move was part of a plan to float a new political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, George expressed outrage at what he described as a betrayal of the PDP, warning that the party must not be treated as a personal enterprise.

“Those who are now talking about forming a mega party — what is the purpose of that? You belong to a solid organisation, the PDP, and yet you’re meeting with Baba Buhari. Is he a member of our party? Was this discussed with anyone in the PDP? Is this a private company?” George asked rhetorically.

He accused Atiku of acting unilaterally, saying the move reeks of personal ambition rather than a collective political vision.

George, a long-time stalwart of the party, also took issue with the optics of Atiku’s meeting with Buhari. “Look at General Buhari shaking hands with these guys. Is he one of us? We fielded you against him, and he trounced you. Now you’re running to him?”

He further questioned the ethnic composition of those involved in the meeting, hinting at a possible sectional agenda.

“Everyone in that delegation was from one side. Who are the other representatives from our party? My worry is that this mega party idea might be a veiled attempt to further divide Nigeria along regional lines.”

George urged party loyalists to reject any such distractions and focus on strengthening the PDP from within.

“My advice to our members nationwide is simple: come home and build the party. Let’s unite and prepare for 2027 together, not fracture ourselves over one man’s ambition,” he said.

Atiku Abubakar has yet to respond to the criticisms.
