Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about the pivotal moment in his career, crediting American R&B singer Chris Brown with playing a role in his rise to global prominence.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, the “Blow My Mind” crooner recounted how his first interaction with the Grammy-winning singer in 2018 sparked a turning point in his musical journey.
“Meeting Chris Brown changed my life,” Davido shared. “He had a Nigerian friend, one of his best friends. The friend called me one day on FaceTime, and my song was playing in the background. I asked where he was and he said, ‘Chris Brown’s house.’ I was like, ‘What? Y’all playing my music?’”
Davido went on to describe the surreal moment when the friend handed the phone to Chris Brown, who was dancing to his track. “That was the first time we had a conversation,” he recalled.
The connection soon blossomed into a friendship and creative partnership. A few months later, Davido traveled to the United States and officially linked up with Chris Brown. “From the first time we met, we just naturally became friends,” he said.
Since then, the two artistes have collaborated on multiple hit songs, including the global smash “Blow My Mind.”
