Counterfeit dollars: Trial of Lagos businessman Aluko Olabanji adjourned

A Federal high court sitting in Lagos has adjourned till 16th of July, 2025 for the continuation of trial of a man, Aluko Olabanji, for alleged possession of counterfeit dollars notes by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

When the case was mentioned for continuation of trial before the Easter vacation, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission’s prosecutor told the court that its next witness has been transferred out of Lagos.

The prosecutor thereforee prayed the court for more time to contact the witness to come and testify.

The EFCC, in a seven -count charge filed before the court by its prosecuting counsel alleged that Aluko Olabanji and one Ikhidero Segun now at Large, were, without lawful authority found to be in possession of 4367 pieces of counterfeit one hundred United States, US dollar bills with series of serial number bill 2004 style knowing them to be counterfeit and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 5(1)(b) and punishable under section 5(2) of the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provisions) Act, Cap C35, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
