Veteran Nigerian musician, John Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, has openly criticized Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, for his controversial directive to arrest individuals with dreadlocks in the state capital, Minna.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the Galala singer, famous for his iconic dreadlocks, questioned the rationale behind the order and challenged the governor’s perception of security threats.
“Na dreadlock dey cause insecurity for the country or na dada dey worry you? What of people with mumu beard?” Showkey asked, expressing disbelief and disapproval of the directive.
He further revealed that he had initially planned to visit Minna but would reconsider in light of the order. “Mohamed Umar, dada be your problem? I dey to come Minna but now you have ask your security agents to cut off dreadlocks so hold your state, but make you cut your beer beer,” he said sarcastically.
Governor Bago issued the order during a stakeholders’ security meeting at the Government House on Tuesday, directing security agencies to cut the hair of individuals with dreadlocks and impose fines on them.
