Tinubu mourns renowned sociologist Prof. Beatrice Oloruntimehin

President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences to the family of Professor Beatrice Olufunmilayo Oloruntimehin, a distinguished sociologist and academic trailblazer, who passed away at the age of 82.

In a statement released by the Presidency, Tinubu described the late Professor Oloruntimehin, wife of the late Professor Benjamin Olatunji Oloruntimehin, a historian, as a woman whose life was marked by service, the pursuit of knowledge, and unwavering devotion to God.

A pioneering graduate of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), she earned a degree in Economics with a specialization in Sociology, followed by a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan. She began her career at the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) before returning to Ife to pursue a full academic path.

“Her works, widely published and presented across continents, enriched global sociological discourses and earned her recognition in directories of world intellectuals, foremost women, and distinguished leaders,” the President stated.

President Tinubu also praised her lifelong commitment to championing the rights of women and the underprivileged, emphasizing her deep understanding of social change and human behavior.

“Her legacy in the academic community and the larger society will continue to inspire many. May God Almighty repose her soul and give her family the fortitude to bear the loss,” he added.
