The Federal Government has confirmed that Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, will resume flight operations on Monday, 28th April 2025.
This follows the completion of emergency runway repairs.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced the reopening in a statement on Saturday, noting that the swift rehabilitation works were completed ahead of the initially projected date of 6th May 2025.
On 18th April 2025, FAAN had ordered a temporary shutdown of the airport after detecting a sudden rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.
Repair works commenced on 22nd April, with engineers working intensively to restore the integrity of the runway.
According to FAAN, engineers have now cleared the runway for safe landings and takeoffs, paving the way for the full resumption of operations.
“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all airport users and stakeholders during this period,” said Mrs Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused but emphasise that all measures were taken in the paramount interest of safety.”
The Authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe skies, secure airports, and seamless travel experiences for all passengers.
