The Lagos State Public Procurement Agency is taking a significant step towards reinforcing transparency and efficiency in public procurement processes.
This was revealed by the Director-General of the Agency, Fatai Idowu Onafowote, during the launch of a comprehensive training programme aimed at empowering procurement officers across the State.
The training, titled “Fundamentals of Public Procurement Process: Sustainable Procurement Empowerment Drive”, targets selected procurement officers from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Lagos.
It focuses on equipping participants with the essential knowledge and skills required to understand procurement documents, record-keeping practices, and the entire procurement process.
Onafowote emphasised that, in order to be regarded as true professionals in the field, procurement officers must be well-versed in the foundational aspects of public procurement.
He encouraged participants to seize this opportunity to enhance their expertise and fully immerse themselves in the training content.
He also highlighted the importance of familiarising themselves with the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency Law 2021, along with the State’s Procurement Guidelines and Regulations, ensuring their roles within MDAs align with best practices.
Addressing the significance of the training, the Director-General urged the officers to justify the State Government’s investment in their professional development by applying their newfound knowledge to manage public resources effectively.
He further warned against any attempts to bypass due process or engage in corrupt practices in public procurement.
This initiative marks a strong commitment by the Lagos State Government to foster a culture of accountability, competence, and transparency in its public procurement system, with the ultimate goal of delivering quality services for the people of Lagos.
