Popular skit maker and singer Carter Efe has taken to social media to criticize the organizers of the 17th Headies Awards following their decision to posthumously award the late Afrobeats star, Mohbad.
The ceremony, which took place on April 27, 2025, in Lagos, saw Mohbad being honoured with the Best Street-Hop Artiste award.
The award was accepted on behalf of Mohbad by his widow, Wunmi, who was visibly emotional as she received the accolade. However, Carter Efe was quick to call out the organizers, accusing them of insincerity and misbehaving by only acknowledging the late singer after his passing.
Carter Efe expressed his frustration online, stating:
“Why Headies dey misbehave now? You go dey nominate Mohbad? Wetin make them nominate Mohbad? But when the boy go dey alive them no go give am o. Anything for the clout na him dem go dey go.”
The comments sparked a flurry of reactions on social media. Some fans questioned why Mohbad was not recognized while he was alive, while others voiced their discontent over the posthumous nature of the award.
