The world’s oldest woman, Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas has died at the age of 116 y in Brazil. Lucas died on the 30th of April 2025.
The death of Lucas has now made Ethel Caterham from the United Kingdom the oldest living person in the world.
Lucas when asked about the secret to her long life and prolonged years said that it was God.
“He is the secret of life. He is the secret of everything,” she said.
Lucas was a nun and a member of the congregation of Teresian Sisters of Brazil, her homeland.
The news of her death was announced by the Congregation, commending her for her life of service while describing her as a dedicated and devoted woman.
Lucas was born on the 8th of June 1908 and she was named the world’s oldest person after the death of Tomiko Itooka, a Japanese woman who also died at the age of 116.
Lucas met with Pope Francis before his death on her 110th birthday.
