Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has quashed rumours that former President Muhammadu Buhari, ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami, and other key figures are considering leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2027 general election.

Sule addressed the speculations, which claimed members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) were unhappy with their treatment by the current administration and were considering defecting from the APC.

The governor made these comments at a grand reception in honor of the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Labaran Magaji, hosted by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Nasarawa chapter.

Sule vehemently rejected the notion that Buhari or Malami would abandon the party, affirming, “There is no question of CPC leaving the APC. Former President Buhari is the heart and soul of the CPC, and when he says CPC is with you, it’s with you. His 12 million voters follow him wherever he goes, and they are staying with the APC.”

The governor added that attempts to destabilize the APC by taking influential members like Malami away from the party would fail.

He further stressed the importance of unity within the party and revealed that recent talks with Buhari in Kaduna confirmed that neither he nor Malami had any plans to leave the APC.

“We told Baba (Buhari) in Kaduna that you’re not going anywhere, and Malami, you’re not going anywhere either. We will build this party together,” Sule said.

As preparations intensify for the 2027 elections, Sule also revealed that 20 aspirants were already vying for his position as governor, although he assured that he had no preferred candidate, leaving the decision to God.

He highlighted his administration’s focus on establishing a robust economic foundation for the state and promised to leave Nasarawa debt-free for the next government.

On the appointment of Magaji as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Sule praised him for his exemplary public service record, noting that his skills and dedication would be crucial in driving the administration’s vision forward.

In his speech, Malami commended Governor Sule for his foresight in appointing Magaji, calling him a “technocrat par excellence” capable of fulfilling the administration’s goals for transparency, accountability, and inclusive development. He urged stakeholders to support Magaji’s efforts to deliver on these promises.

Alhaji Safiyanu Andaha, Chairman of Nasarawa ALGON, also expressed full support for Magaji, acknowledging his track record and the governor’s wise decision in selecting him. Andaha pledged the continued commitment of local government leaders to the success of the administration.

Magaji, for his part, thanked Governor Sule for his leadership, which he described as focused on prudent management of the state’s resources to benefit the people, and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration. (NAN)
