Ekundayo Samuel re-elected president of COSFAN for second term

The Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association Nigeria (COSFAN) has re-elected Dr. Ekundayo Samuel for a second term as President.

Dr. Samuel, a lecturer in Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry at the University of Ibadan, was returned unopposed due to his strong performance in his first tenure.

During a virtual Quarterly General Meeting on Saturday, Dr. Samuel and the newly elected National Executive Committee members were sworn in by legal practitioner, Titilope Adeyemi. The new executives will serve a two-year term, with the option for renewal for eligible members.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Samuel expressed his commitment to collaborate with the British Council Nigeria and the government to advance mentorship and development programs. He also pledged to empower COSFAN members to make meaningful impacts in their fields and communities. He urged all levels of government, institutions, and organizations to engage COSFAN’s experts to enhance service delivery nationwide.

Dr. Samuel, also the Executive Director of Dove-Haven Foundation (DHF), thanked COSFAN Patrons – Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye – for their continued support.

Other elected officers include Vice President Dr. Badia Maje-Sayyadi, Secretary-General Mr. Josiah Owoeye, Treasurer Dr. Oluwatosin Igbayiloye, and Publicity Secretary Mr. Adewale Adeniyi. Regional Coordinators elected include Prof. Rayyan Garba (North-West), Mrs. Victoria Shoyombo (North-Central), Dr. Fatimas Baba-Ari (North-East), Prof. Olayinka Nwachukwu (South-East), Prof. Emmanuel Akpabio (South-South), and Dr. Adetoun Mustapha (South-West). Dr. Abiola Adimula was elected as an Ex-Officio member.

COSFAN is a non-profit association of Nigerians who have benefited from Commonwealth-funded academic and professional programs. With over 3,000 members, the association aims to leverage the knowledge of its members to promote societal development, particularly in education and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
