In an Instagram post, AY opened up about the experience, revealing that the EFCC invited him to clarify the matter of his involvement in the act, which is classified as a violation of the Naira abuse law.

Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has shared details about his recent invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an incident involving the public spraying of both local and foreign currencies.

In an Instagram post, AY opened up about the experience, revealing that the EFCC invited him to clarify the matter of his involvement in the act, which is classified as a violation of the Naira abuse law.

He explained that after confirming the money sprayed was not linked to proceeds of crime or illicit funds, he was granted a pardon by the anti-graft agency.

“I am grateful to God for His mercy and guidance,” AY said. “This experience has been a valuable lesson, and I am personally committed to promoting awareness about the proper respect and care for our national currency.”

The comedian took the opportunity to educate Nigerians about the legal implications of Naira abuse, stressing that acts such as spraying, tearing, defacing, or mishandling the currency are not just cultural practices, but violations of the law. He emphasized that such acts can undermine the integrity of the national currency and have serious legal consequences.

In his post, AY shared his insights and admonished Nigerians to uphold the dignity of the Naira, saying, “Respect for the Naira is respect for Nigeria’s future.” He also attached slides to the post outlining the dos and don’ts when handling the national currency.

He concluded by urging the public to foster a culture of patriotism, integrity, and responsible behaviour.
