Former Manchester United and England defender, Rio Ferdinand, has been hospitalised over an undisclosed ailment.

He announced on his hospital bed that would not be part of TNT Sports’ coverage of this week’s UEFA Champions League semi-final matches.

Ferdinand, a regular pundit on the channel’s high-profile European football broadcasts, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the update with his followers.

“Gutted to be missing the Semi-Finals this week on @footballontnt!! Wishing the team all the best — I’ll be watching every minute from the iPad!” he posted, alongside a handshake and heart emoji.

While the 45-year-old did not reveal the reason for his absence, his message makes clear his continued enthusiasm and support for the coverage, even from afar.
