Lagos issues crucial twist on 110-day closure of major Bridge

The Lagos State Government has announced an indefinite postponement of the planned repair works on the Ogudu–Oworonshoki Bridge.

Originally scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 6, and run in phases until Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the repair project was expected to necessitate a partial shutdown of the Oworonshoki/Third Axial Bridge for 110 days.

However, in a fresh statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed that the scheduled works have been put on hold.

“The Lagos State Government wishes to inform motorists that the previously announced traffic diversion for repair works on the Ogudu–Oworonshoki Bridge has been rescheduled. A new date for the commencement of the repairs will be communicated in due course,” the statement read.

The commissioner reassured the public of the government’s commitment to safety and minimal disruption during infrastructure upgrades.

“We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued cooperation,” he added.

According to the initial plan, Phases 1 to 4 of the project were to address the inbound stretch of the Oworonshoki/Third Axial Bridge leading to the Third Mainland Bridge, lasting from May 6 to July 14. Phases 5 to 8 were scheduled to cover the outbound section from July 15 to September 23.

The government has yet to announce a new timeline for the repairs.
