The Lagos State Cooperative College, Oko-Oba, is set to graduate 153 students across three academic departments at its second convocation ceremony scheduled for May 12 to 14, 2025.
Provost of the College, Mr. Akorede Ojomu, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Friday at the college campus in Agege, where he reflected on the institution’s growth and future.
According to him, the graduands have completed diploma programmes in Microfinance and Enterprise Development, Cooperative Economics and Management, and Professional Diploma in Economics and Management.
“These graduates are not just leaving with academic certificates,” Ojomu said, adding that “they are equipped with vocational skills that enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential, thanks to our collaboration with the Lagos State Women Development Centre.”
Ojomu noted that the college had recorded major advancements since its first convocation in 2022, including the recruitment of experienced lecturers, the digitalisation of campus operations, and strategic partnerships with institutions such as Lagos State University, Co-operative College (UK), and Ibile Microfinance Bank.
He also announced that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted the college full accreditation to award National Diplomas in its core programmes, and interim accreditation for a new course in Computer Science.
Highlighting efforts to combat youth unemployment, Ojomu revealed the launch of a Premium 9-Month Technical Training Programme, which includes a three-month industry-based attachment and follows the curriculum of the City & Guilds of London Institute.

He said the training currently covers electrical installation, plumbing, and welding, with internationally recognised certification at completion.
The convocation activities will begin on Monday, May 12 with a lecture titled “Cooperative Management: The Development and Transformation of Nano Enterprises in Lagos State,” to be delivered by Dr. Olusegun Dada.
On May 13, the college will host an alumni and student engagement programme, while the main convocation event on May 14 will feature the award of diplomas, the conferment of fellowship awards, and the commissioning of a new academic building by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Ojomu, whose tenure as Provost is ending soon, described the occasion as a personal milestone.
“This marks my final convocation as Provost. I am grateful to God, the Governor, and the entire college community for the honour to serve,” he said.
With its growing reputation and expanded academic offerings, the college is positioning itself as a key player in the manpower and socio-economic development of Lagos State, in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration.
