Chelsea supporters have taken to social media to criticize Nicholas Jackson after he was shown a red in their crucial showdown with Newcastle.
The Blues striker was sent off in the 35th minute of the clash at St James’ Park following an elbow on Sven Botman.
Jackson was initially booked for the challenge on the defender, but saw the card upgraded after referee John Brooks was sent to the VAR screen.
The incident came as Chelsea were behind following Sandro Tonali’s opener after just two minutes.
The incident also means Nicolas Jackson has received more cards (4) in the Premier League this year than he has direct goal involvements (3).
The card will also ensure that Jackson will be suspended until the end of the season.
In response to the red card, one disgruntled fan and analyst lamented on Twitter, “Jackson has effectively handed us a defeat and potentially jeopardized our Champions League aspirations. This debacle should mark the culmination of his tenure with Chelsea.”
Another exasperated supporter chimed in, “In a match of paramount importance for Champions League qualification, Jackson instead collects a red card rather than contributing to the score sheet. I implore the club to expedite his departure; Victor Osimhen or nobody would be a preferable alternative come summer.”
Another fan chimed in, stating, “Osimhen or nothing next season, Jackson needs to be shipped out of Chelsea immediately.”
