In a chilling case that has shaken the community, a 17-year-old boy was handed a 20-year prison sentence at the Old Bailey for the cold-blooded murder of 16-year-old Kamari Johnson.
The deadly confrontation unfolded in broad daylight on May 24, 2024, in Bourne Avenue, Hayes, where Kamari was viciously stabbed after a frantic chase that was captured on video.
Desperate bystanders tried to save the teenager as he lay bleeding in the street, but their efforts were in vain.
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila condemned the senseless violence, revealing the shocking motive behind the killing: a bitter dispute over a £180 moped.
“This tragedy highlights how petty arguments can escalate into deadly attacks when knives are involved,” he said.
The killer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, turned himself in the day after the murder, claiming self-defence. However, investigators used CCTV footage, witness statements, and phone records to unravel the brutal truth.
Justice has been served, but the heartbreaking loss of Kamari Johnson leaves a scar on the community — a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of knife crime among youths.
