Popular comedian Basketmouth has taken a swipe at Nigerian music stars Wizkid and Burna Boy during the 2025 AY Live show, while hailing Davido for his consistency and use of his real name.
In his stand-up routine, Basketmouth praised Davido for maintaining a strong and loyal team throughout his career. He applauded Davido for sticking with his given name, saying it showed authenticity and steadiness.
“David has been consistent. He even used his real name, Davido. Consistent for years. David has been going on stage with 100 people. Till today, he still maintains that number,” Basketmouth said.
He contrasted this with Wizkid, whose stage name he said was a misstep. Basketmouth joked that Wizkid gave himself the name “wizkid” without thinking about growing older, and now struggles to change it.
“Wizkid gave himself ‘wizkid,’ but he forgot that he would grow old. Now he is struggling to change the name, but nobody agrees — machala, na lie you are a Wizkid. Big Bird — na lie, you’re a kid,” Basketmouth quipped. He added that while Wizkid once wowed audiences with dance moves, now he just wears a singlet and sings simply.
Basketmouth made a similar playful critique of Burna Boy’s stage name for including “Boy.”
Social media reacted quickly to Basketmouth’s remarks. User fabuzanotti joked, “Davido was trying to hold his laugh but he couldn’t contain it .”
