Nollywood actress Grace Bassey joins U.S. Navy, earns citizenship

Nigerian actress Grace Bassey, formerly known by her screen name Belinda Effah, has taken a new path by joining the United States Navy, officially leaving her acting career behind to serve in the military.

After successfully completing the rigorous U.S. Navy boot camp, Grace Bassey celebrated earning American citizenship, marking a significant milestone in her new journey.

The 35-year-old actress shared her transition and reflections in an emotional Instagram post, acknowledging how America has challenged her to become stronger and more determined despite her Nigerian upbringing.

In her post, Grace Bassey dedicated her military career to the memory of her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah, expressing motivation drawn from his legacy.

Grace made her Nollywood debut in the 2005 television series Shallow Waters and later changed her name from Belinda Effah to Grace-Charis Bassey following a spiritual encounter she described as transformative.
