Unicorn Sports Secondary Schools Football Tournament kicks off with excitement in Ikorodu

Unicorn Sports Secondary Schools Football Tournament

The much-anticipated Unicorn Sports Secondary Schools Football Tournament made its debut with energy and enthusiasm at Kingsfield College, Ikorodu, where the opening whistle blew at exactly 9:30 a.m.

The school’s turf was one of several selected venues for what promises to be a growing platform for grassroots football.

The tournament is an initiative of Unicorn Sports Ltd, powered by Tosmicom Sports, and supported under the Digital Scouting Africa platform—a movement focused on discovering and nurturing young sporting talent across the continent.

The first match set the tone for the competition, as Kingsfield College locked horns with Master Point College in a thrilling contest. The match was tight, but the home crowd—led by the ever-energetic Kingsfield girls and their supporters’ club—made all the difference. Their chants and dances lifted the spirits of their team, who edged the game 2–1.

Next up, Abule Eko School took on Elepe Community Senior High School in a fast-paced encounter. From the get-go, it was clear Abule Eko meant business. Despite Elepe’s attempts to stay in the game, Abule Eko’s fitness and fluid play gave them a deserved 2–0 win.

Ruthina College, a school known for its discipline, arrived early and well-prepared for their match against Mahmud Ahmadiyya College. The game was balanced and tactical, but a single goal made the difference, giving Mahmud Ahmadiyya the win.

Luwasa Senior High School got a bye into the next round as their opponent failed and the match was ruled a walk over in their favour.

As the day went on, light rain began to fall—what many saw as symbolic blessings on the tournament. The downpour didn’t stop the action. In fact, it added to the atmosphere as Kingsfield College returned to the pitch to face Luwasa in the semi-final.

Luwasa struck first, but Kingsfield equalised after a costly error from the opposing goalkeeper. The game headed to penalties—the tournament’s first—and the hosts kept their nerve, sealing a spot in the final.

The second semi-final, between Mahmud Ahmadiyya and Abule Eko, was a proper showdown. The highlight? A stunning free-kick from Odubote Olatunji that found the back of the net and sent Mahmud Ahmadiyya into the final. It was a moment of brilliance that may well go down as the goal of the tournament.

Now, the stage is set. The third-place playoff will feature:

Luwasa Senior High School

Master Point College

Abule Eko School

And on May 31, 2025, Kingsfield College will play hosts again—this time in the grand finale against Mahmud Ahmadiyya College. It promises to be a match to remember.

The event has drawn attention not only for the football but also for the dignitaries in attendance. Mrs. Roseline Udedibor, proprietress of Ruthina College and a firm believer in holistic education, was present alongside her daughter, Divine Udedibor.

Also present was Mrs. Amali Hannah, Principal of Kingsfield College and a strong advocate for youth and school sports who was on ground to cheer and support her young lads.

As the tournament unfolds, it’s clear that this is more than just a competition—it’s a launchpad for future stars, backed by organisations truly invested in youth, school sports and grass root development.
