Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a no-holds-barred investigation into the tragic killing of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade, who was allegedly shot dead by a police officer during a joint operation with the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA).

This is contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday.

Describing the incident as “unacceptable and heartbreaking,” the IGP confirmed that the officer responsible has already been taken into custody.

He assured Nigerians that the investigation would be transparent and thorough, with findings made public to guarantee justice for the young victim.

“This is a deeply disturbing event,” the IGP stated. “I offer my heartfelt condolences to Kehinde Alade’s family. Justice must be served.”

The shocking death of the teenager has sparked public outrage and renewed concerns over police conduct and use of force, especially involving minors.

The IGP’s swift intervention is seen as a strong signal of accountability within the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force.

While urging citizens to remain calm and law-abiding, the Force reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and called on the public to channel grievances through peaceful and lawful means.
