The Nigeria Police Force has expressed outrage over a vicious and unprovoked mob attack on its elite operatives in the early hours of Monday, at Okhuimwun Community in Ovia North-East LGA of Edo State.

This is contained in a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday.

According to police authorities, the victims—members of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT)—were ambushed while in transit from Lagos through Edo.

The officers were suddenly confronted by a hostile crowd who had barricaded the road near the University of Benin (UNIBEN) axis.

What followed was a shocking act of violence as the mob hurled stones, sticks, and other dangerous weapons, inflicting serious injuries on two officers.

Despite the life-threatening assault, the statement said the officers reportedly showed extraordinary restraint, choosing not to return fire or escalate the chaos, adding that they are now receiving treatment and are said to be in stable condition.

Fuming over the attack, the Police warned that such lawless aggression against security personnel would no longer be tolerated.

The Force has launched a full-scale investigation and promised to bring all perpetrators to justice.

“This is a dangerous assault on law enforcement. We will not rest until those responsible are held to account,” the NPF warned.
