Edo correspondents seek financial support for ailing journalist

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has appealed to kind hearted and spirited individuals for financial support, to help cover the costs of treatment of a colleague, Mr. Gabriel Enogholase, a former reporter with Vanguard newspaper.

Enogholase is critically ill with infected kidneys, liver, stroke and other severe health crisis that has significantly impacted his ability to work and sustain himself financially.

The Chapel in a statement on Wednesday, jointly signed by Comrade Patrick Ochoga and Elder Patrick Ahanor, Chairman and Secretary respectively, described Enogholase as a dedicated and respected member who has contributed to developmental and ethical journalism.

The statement noted that his current medical condition has however left him unable to work, resulting in a significant loss of income.

It added, “Gabriel’s financial burden of medical bills, coupled with daily living expenses has become overwhelming.

“Despite the efforts of family, colleagues and friends to provide support, the situation remains dire.”

Continuing, the journalists quoted Gabriel’s eldest son, Gabriel Ehidiamhen Akhuemokhan Jnr. as saying, “I humbly appeal for financial assistance from members of the public to enable my daddy get back to his feet again.

“He has been sick and admitted to the Edo Specialist Hospital. we have exhausted all we had and now in dire need of assistance.

“Kind contributions and assistance will go a long way through his account number, 2182706859, UBA, Gabriel Enogholase.”

Meanwhile, members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, on Wednesday, made a cash donation to support Gabriel Enogholase’s medicare.

Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Patrick Ochoga, while presenting the fund on behalf of members to the family of Gabriel Enogholase at the Edo Specialist Hospital in Benin City, said the visit was to offer a token of the Chapel’s support and pray for his recovery.

According to him, “The cash donation is a small gesture of our appreciation and a reminder that you are valued and cared for.

“We wish you speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing your work continue to inspire us.”
