The police in Benin, Edo State, have arrested a 50 year-old-man, Mohammed Ihuenuma, for alleged sexual molestation of a 15-year-old girl (name withheld), in Benin City.
The arrest of the suspect, who is said to be the official driver of one of the Special Advisers to Governor Monday Okpebholo, followed a tip-off from the father of the victim.
It was gathered that the suspect always looked for opportunity to fiddle with the teenager whenever he visits the father at their house on an errand.
Sources said the driver while trying to entice the girl, has touched her in indecent manner at different times.
It was gathered that after several incidents, the girl reported the matter to her mother who eventually informed her father about it, who, in turn, reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The State Police Command’s Spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, disclosed that a thorough investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect would be charged to court.
Yamu advised members of the public to always report cases of rape, indecent assault and defilement to the police for immediate action.
According to him, the State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has zero tolerance for cases associated with Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
