Renowned author and prolific writer Cyprian F. Edward-Ekpo will unveil his latest book, Shackles: Proclivities of Degeneration and the Root Cause of Nigeria’s Perennial Failure, in Cambridge, United Kingdom, in September 2025.
The book, published by the Universal School of Eclectic Analysis, Legal Research & Law Studies (UNISERL), offers a powerful and honest look at the problems that have kept Nigeria from reaching its full potential.
In Shackles, Edward-Ekpo explains the socio-psychological characterization of Nigerians, the repeated mistakes in leadership and policy, and the deep-rooted challenges that continue to affect the country’s progress.

Cyprian Edward-Ekpo is widely respected for his thought-provoking writings. He currently serves as Director-General of the Institute of Law Research & Development of the United Nations ( ILAWDUN), based in Washington, DC, USA, Director and Board member of Universal School of Eclectic Analysis, Legal Research & Law Studies ( UNISERL), Suffolk, United Kingdom. He is also the Registrar of the International Institute for Humanitarian & Environmental Law (ISHERL), Abuja, Nigeria
and Managing Partner and Dean of Research at Multi-Intelligence Development Company, a legal consultancy firm with offices in Washington, D.C USA, and Abuja.
He has held several key academic and professional roles.
He was appointed as a distinguished professor of International Environmental Law in the United States and an Honorary Professor of Public International Law in the United Kingdom.
Edward-Ekpo has written several powerful books that deal with law, society, human rights, and Nigeria’s development.
His well-known works include the over 1,000-page volume Environmental Law: Human Rights and Globalization, Six Decades a Missing President: Why Nigeria Fails, The World as He Saw It: Mystery and Idiosyncracy Conceptualizing My Grandfather, Law in Tears: Lego-Nihilism and the Decimation of Judicial Supremacy, and The Travails of a Tormented Rose.
In addition to his books, he has presented many papers at conferences and seminars around the world and has worked with lawmakers, schools, and organizations on legal and environmental issues.
